Nestled along the rolling hills south of Syracuse, NY you will find the hamlets of Otisco on Route 80 and Amber on the eastern shore of Otisco Lake. Together, the hamlets form the town of Otisco. The first permanent settlements began in 1800 and the town charter was signed on March 21st, 1806. The town was originally part of the Central New York Military Tract.
My name is Kate Fitzpatrick, and I am the Town of Otisco Historian. My role is to help you explore local records, preserve your family history, and help you find the answers to any questions you may have.
Do you have any photos, diaries, maps, or random bits of interesting things that Grandma kept that you don’t quite know what to do with? Please feel free to contact me, I can help you figure out how to preserve it in order to save these pieces of your family’s history and how it may relate to history of the area. Whenever possible, if we could add digital copy to the town archives, that would be greatly appreciated.
Please check back often as we will be continuing to add more information and fascinating finds as they come in.
